i do not have a preferred name. my names are all my names. i will reply as happily as i could to any with no preference.
how to pronounce 진주/jinju
in korean it's 진주 [t͡ɕiɲd͡ʑu]. romanized jinju - it's literally like jin and juice without "ice", get it?
how to pronounce pearl
you can actually read this in whatever accent you use, many of my friends fail to pronounce the -earl [ɝl] (IPA) part. even my parents. this often resulted in me being called paul or even carl. i'll actually respond to all of those. 펄 [pʰʌl] is also a name i look (or listen) for.
ah also, you can call me Жемчужина [ʐɨmˈt͡ɕuʐɨnə], my profs and friends i met in undergrad call me that.
funny thing is my korean friends/colleagues call me by pearl (or even perla, español var.), and my friends/co-workers that i've met in US will call me jinju, because many think "pearl is not my real name".
sure there are people that may feel disattachment to some of their names, but speaking only for myself, i do not have that. they all mean the same thing. ⚪
also let me know how you call ⚪ in your language, i'd happily take on a new name. hooray for multilinguality of my name!
